BWF World Championship 2022: Anthony Ginting Tripped By Axelsen, No Indonesian Men's Singles In The Semifinals

JAKARTA - Anthony Sinisuka Ginting ran aground in the quarter-finals of the 2022 BWF World Championship. He surrendered to the first seed from Denmark, Viktor Axelsen.

Anthony failed to get a semifinal ticket after losing two straight games 10-21 and 10-21 to the world number one men's singles at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, Japan, on Friday, August 26.

Anthony immediately conceded four points at the start of the first game. He then slowly scored, but still trailed 5-11 at the interval.

After the break, Axelsen immediately added four points in a row and Anthony replied with the next three points. However, after that Anthony could only produce two points.

The second game went almost the same even though Anthony scored the first point. Axelsen hit back with three points to take the lead and then take a four-point lead at half-time.

After the break, Axelsen again immediately walked away with seven consecutive points. Anthony only cut the distance by three more points after that.

This defeat worsened Anthony's win-lose record over Axelsen to 10-4. This was also Anthony's fifth defeat this year against the Danish representative.

The elimination of Anthony made Indonesia run out of representatives in the men's singles. Previously, Jonathan Christie had already stopped after losing to Chou Tien Chen.
