Housewife Sending Illegal PMI Candidates In Batam Arrested By Police

BATAM - Polairud Polresta Barelang arrested a housewife who sent prospective Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) illegally abroad in Batam, Riau Islands.

"The perpetrator who was arrested had the initials AN (29 years old) who was a housewife," said Head of Polairud Polresta Barelang Kompol Dwi Ramadhanto, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, August 26.

The disclosure of this case, said Dhanto, began with reports from residents who received information that there were several PMI candidates who would illegally depart for Malaysia at the perpetrator's house.

The team then checked the location and found two PMI candidates and the perpetrators.

"When we interrogated the victims, they admitted that they would be dispatched through the rat port by the perpetrators," he said.

After receiving information from the victim, the police took the victim and the perpetrator to the Barelang Police Station for further examination.

"According to the perpetrator's confession, this is the first time he has committed the crime of placing illegal PMIs. For the cost of going to Johor Malaysia, the victim must pay Rp. 6,500,000 to the perpetrator," he said.

For his actions, the perpetrator was charged with Article 81 and/or Article 83 of Law No. RI. 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers with a criminal threat of 10 years in prison or a maximum fine of Rp. 15,000,000,000.
