In 8 Months, East Java Police Reveals Thousands Of Drug Cases With A Total Of 352 Kg Of Shabu Shabu Up To 37 Thousand Ecstasy
SURABAYA - The East Java Regional Police (Polda) in eight months from January to August 2022, revealed 4,184 drug cases involving 5,151 suspects. The illicit goods business is dominated by the Surabaya area.
The evidence from the thousands of drug cases was 352.07 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, 37,262 ecstasy pills, 3,117 psychotropic pills, 93.86 kg of marijuana, and 17 million hard drugs. Dirmanto said the illicit goods were sent from an international network with the majority destination in Surabaya.
"All this evidence will be destroyed today," said Head of Public Relations of the East Java Police, Kombes Dirmanto when releasing the case at the East Java Police Headquarters in Surabaya, Thursday, August 25.
The suspects carried out various modes so that drug shipments escaped Customs and Excise checks. Among other things, drugs are put in water pumps, milk cans, paint cans, air conditioner pipes, and packaged in heels.
Meanwhile, the drug shipments, said Dirmanto, were mostly sent by sea. Some are also sent by air, but minimal.
As for the delivery route, drugs from Cambodia are sent to Malaysia, then to Riau, Palembang, Jakarta, and ending in Surabaya.
Drugs sent from Malaysia are usually sent into Kalimantan and into the Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya. Once they arrived in Surabaya, the drugs were hidden in an unexpected place.
"For example, some are hidden in rice fields, under banana trees, warehouses. Some are even put in car door trims," he said.
