Floods Inundate 135 Houses Of North Penajam Paser Residents, The Water Level Reaches 1 Meter

KALTIM - Floods submerged 135 houses in five villages or sub-districts in two sub-districts in the North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan Province (Kaltim), since the early hours of Thursday, August 25.

The Daily Executive Head of the Emergency and Logistics Division of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of North Penajam Paser Regency, I Gusti Putu Agus Dharma, said that the water level (TMA) in flood-affected residential areas was between 5 cm and one meter.

"The TMA in each location is different, but in general it is between 5 and 30 cm in the house, while the TMA in the yard is between 20 cm and one meter," he said in Penajam, East Kalimantan, Thursday, August 25.

According to BPBD data, flooding occurred in the areas of Lawe-Lawe, Nipah-Nipah, Sungai Parit and Nenang Villages in Penajam District and Bangun Mulya Village in Waru District.

In Lawe-Lawe Village, the flood began to inundate residents' settlements at around 06.30 and caused 49 houses to be inundated, namely 22 houses in Rukun Tetangga (RT) 01 and 26 houses in RT 26.

Floods began to inundate residents' settlements in Sungai Parit Village since around 00.30. The number of houses that were inundated was 45 units, consisting of 20 housing units in RT 05 and 25 houses in RT 06.

In addition, the flood inundated 26 houses in RT 04 Nenang Village, three houses each in RT 01 and RT 03 Nipah-Nipah Village, as well as seven houses in RT 06 and two houses in RT 15 in Bangun Mulya Village.

"We are still on guard in five villages/kelurahan that were affected by the flood. Officers together with the police, Babinsa, and a number of parties also helped evacuate residents who needed assistance," said Gusti.

He explained that the BMKG on Wednesday, August 24, had issued a warning regarding the potential for rain with moderate to heavy intensity which could be accompanied by lightning in the Penajam District area.

According to him, it was raining in the Penajam area on Thursday from 00.30 to 04.00 and caused puddles in residential areas.
