Businessman Bribery Former South Buru Regent Sentenced Lightly To 1.8 Years In Prison, KPK Prosecutor Refuses To Appeal
AMBON - The Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is reluctant to appeal the sentence of 1.8 years in prison against the defendant Ivana Kweleju, a businessman who bribed the former South Buru Regent, Tagop Sudarsono Soulissa.
The coordinator of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) team, Taufiq Ibnugroho, confirmed that he accepted the Ambon Court's verdict for the Corruption Crimes Court (Tipikor).
"Regarding the decision on the corruption case and/or bribery and gratification on behalf of Ivana, we, the public prosecutor of the KPK, state that we accept it," said Taufiq when contacted, Tuesday, August 23.
The briber of the former Tagop Regent was found guilty of violating Article 5 paragraph (1) of Law No. 31 of 1999 as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001 concerning corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.
Ivan as the President Director of PT Vidi Citra Kencana was also sentenced to pay a fine of Rp. 60 million, a subsidiary of three months in prison.
The judge's verdict was handed down to Ivan on Tuesday, August 9. Based on the Antara report, the defendant through his attorney, T. Maria Astuti and Indra Prasetya, stated that they accepted the judge's decision.
Because the judge's decision is still lighter than the demands of the KPK team of prosecutors against Ivana for two years and six months in prison and a fine of IDR 85 million, subsidiary of four months in prison.
The absence of an appeal against the judge's decision to Ivana made the case for the bribery of the former Tagop Regent declared to have permanent legal force.
