Affirms Not Bound By 2015 Deal, PM Lapid: Israel Will Do Everything To Prevent Iran From Acquiring Nuclear Capability

JAKARTA - Israel has reiterated its efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear capability, reiterating its opposition to restoring the 2015 Nuclear Agreement and will not be bound by it if it materializes.

That was said by Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid in his talks with French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday.

"The prime minister explained to the president that Israel is against the return of the deal and will not be required by such a deal. Israel will continue to do everything to prevent Iran from achieving nuclear capability," Lapid's office said.

Further in the talks carried out by phone call, PM Lapid said Western powers should not make further concessions to Tehran.

He continued, the return of the deal would provide Iran with significant funds to increase its support for terror activities in the region, as quoted by The Times of Israel.

PM Lapid also argued that the deal currently being negotiated with Tehran includes "elements that go beyond the original (deal) boundaries known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

It is known that the restoration of the Nuclear Agreement is being pursued with the European Union as a 'bridge' for indirect dialogue between the United States and Iran. The JCPOA includes the United States, Iran, the European Union, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United Kingdom.
