The Impact Of Bad Weather And Ferocious Waves, For 3 Days Maluku BPTD Stopped Galala Cruises To Namlea
AMBON - The Maluku Provincial Land Transportation Management Agency (BPTD) said that during August it had stopped shipping between Galala Ambon to Namlea for three days in a row due to high waves.
"It's been three days in a row with today. Just like last month for 5 consecutive days, the conditions are similar," said Head of Maluku BPTD, Handa Lesamana in Ambon, quoted from Antara, Monday, August 22.
Handa said, today's bad weather caused high waves in most of Buru's waters so that the service for the Galala to Namlea ferry was still unable to operate.
"Hopefully the weather and waves will improve soon, and hopefully this month will not be five days in a row," he said.
According to him, this inter-island shipping stop will only apply to ships crossing the waters of Buru Island.
“Hunimua, Liang, Ambon to Waipirit, West Seram are still possible, because they are close and protected by the islands. So so far it is still safe even though the waves are high,” he said.
Handa asked all people who want to travel to Namlea, or want to go to Ambon from Namlea, to be patient, and not to rush.
"We ask that you understand that crossing services are canceled due to high waves because passenger safety is the priority," said Handa.
Based on high wave warning information from the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Ambon Maritime Station, the Buru Sea is still in the high category, namely, 2.5 to 4.0.
BPTD Maluku together with the harbormaster will update the information to the public at 9:00 a.m. WIT every day.
