Wales Athlete In Coma After Fatal Bicycle Accident, Fiancé: Please Pray For Him

JAKARTA - Welsh athlete Ben Gregory is in critical condition after being involved in a serious accident while cycling last weekend.

According to his fiancee Naomi Heffernan, the 31-year-old athlete suffered from fractures to the skull and neck bones. He also had multiple brain haemorrhages.

"He is in a coma and on a life support," Heffernan wrote in a post on his Instagram, reported by The Sun.

"Ben needs your positive thoughts and prayers right now. Those who know Ben know how strong he is mentally and physically, he is a fighter and he will get through this."

"Please pray for him and send all the positive energy and thoughts you can muster," continued Heffernan.

Gregory represented Great Britain and competed for Wales at three Commonwealth Games, namely in Delhi in 2010, Glasgow in 2014, and on the Gold Coast four years ago. He is now a personal instructor and coach.

Fellow British athletic stars have sent their best wishes upon hearing the sad news.

Former world champion hurdler Dai Greene also took to Twitter to describe Gregory as one of the kindest and most positive people.

"Sad to hear the news about Gregory. Hope he makes it through. One of the nicest and most positive people I've ever had the pleasure of being on track. Keep fighting Ben," Dai wrote.

This accident is not the first time experienced by Gregory. He was also reported to have been involved in a bicycle accident in October 2020, but was not seriously injured.
