Throwing Rocks At The Train Is Dangerous For Passengers, Punishable By 15 Years In Prison

JAKARTA - The act of throwing trains is considered a danger to passengers who are traveling. The prohibition of throwing trains has also been regulated in Law Number 23 of 2007 concerning Railways.

In accordance with Article 180 of Law 23/2007, everyone is prohibited from removing, damaging, or committing acts that result in damage and/or malfunction of Railway Infrastructure and Facilities.

"The impact of the punishment for vandalism is contained in Article 194 paragraph 1 which states that anyone who intentionally creates a hazard to public traffic, driven by steam or other engine power on a train or tramway, is threatened with a maximum imprisonment of 15 years," said Head of Public Relations of PT KAI Daop 1 Jakarta Eva Chairunisa when confirmed by VOI, Friday, August 19.

Meanwhile, if the act results in the death of a person as stated in Article 194 paragraph 2, he continued, those who are guilty are threatened with life imprisonment or imprisonment for a certain period of 20 years at most.

"KAI Daop 1 Jakarta also continues to carry out safety socialization so that all people around the rail line do not commit acts of vandalism on trains (KA)," he said.

From the records of KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, throughout 2022 as many as 81 socialization activities continue to be carried out in various locations.

"People who see acts of vandalism are also advised to help to immediately report the incident to officers at the station or the authorities and the perpetrators can be arrested," he said.

Previously, it was reported that a video recording of the act of throwing stones at a passing train in the Jatinegara area, East Jakarta, went viral on the WhatsApp group.

The incident occurred when the long-distance Argo Parahyangan train was passing on Thursday, August 18. However, the video only went viral on Friday, August 19.

In the video footage, three young men are seen sitting and standing around the railroad tracks. When the train passed, several youths were seen throwing stones allegedly.
