Not only for the champions, the increase also applies to players who have appeared since the first round of the Grand Slam tournament at the end of that season.

That means an increase of $80,000 for every single player playing in the first round of the main draw, and an increase of up to $121,000 for players appearing in the second round.

The USTA said the decision was taken after they consulted with the WTA as well as the ATP Players Board.

USTA also provides prizes of more than USD 6.25 million to be awarded to qualifying participants.

Meanwhile, the pair competing in the men's and women's doubles will receive a cash prize of US$688,000 each, or double that of the runner-up.

The main round of the US Open in New York will begin on August 29.
