Not Satisfied With Self-Sufficiency, Jokowi Wants Indonesia To Export Rice To Help Global Food Crisis
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expressed his desire for Indonesia to export rice to help the food crisis facing the world today. This desire departs from Indonesia, which has succeeded in being self-sufficient in rice since 2019.
This was conveyed by President Joko Widodo at the opening of the 2022 National Coordination Meeting for Inflation Control, broadcast from the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube.
"We received a certificate of appreciation from the International Rice Research Institute for our food security system and rice self-sufficiency which we must maintain and improve. So that we will not only be self-sufficient in rice, but later we can export rice to help overcome food shortages in several countries," he said, Thursday. , August 18th.
The former governor of DKI Jakarta said that the price of rice in several countries had touched Rp. 50,000 per kg. Meanwhile, Indonesia can still be controlled at Rp. 10,000 per kg.
"We have to be grateful, especially we can control the price of rice well. The average price of rice is Rp. 10,000. Look at other countries. Yesterday I checked at the embassy to see the price of rice in Japan, Rp. 66,000, South Korea. Rp 54,000, US Rp 53,000, in China Rp 26,000," he said.
Jokowi also asked for this to be maintained, considering that currently all countries are facing a very, very difficult situation. In fact, there are 60 countries that are predicted to experience economic bankruptcy.
"This is what I said, we can't work with standards, we can't anymore. Because the situation is not normal. We can't work routinely, because the situation is not normal, we can't use standard standards, standard standards can't," he said.
