H-1 RI 77th Anniversary, KKB Papua Burns Facilities Owned By Intan Jaya Regency Government

PAPUA - A shootout has taken place between the security forces and the Papuan armed criminal group (KKB) since Tuesday, August 16 morning until now.

Danrem 173/PVB Brigadier General Taufan Gustoro said a shootout between security forces and the Papuan KKB occurred in Sugapa District, the capital city of Intan Jaya Regency.

In this clash, the Papuan KKB also set fire to a number of facilities belonging to the Intan Jaya Regency Government.

Previously, the Papuan Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri had warned his staff including members of the TNI who served in Papua to be on standby ahead of the 77th Indonesian Independence Day.

To the Police Chief in Papua, the Papuan Police Chief asked to increase his vigilance.

As for the community, the Papuan Police Chief appealed to limit activities, especially to areas that are considered vulnerable and far from the reach of the security forces.

The areas that are considered vulnerable to security disturbances are the regencies of the Bintang Mountains, Yahukimo, Intan Jaya, Puncak Nduga, and Puncak Jaya.

"Hopefully there will be no security disturbances and the implementation of the 77th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia will take place safely," said the Papuan Police Chief, quoted by Antara, Monday, August 15.

The Papuan Police Chief said that a number of security officials had been assigned to monitor the implementation of the 77th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence throughout Papua. The officials referred to are Karoops, Dirintel, and Dansat Brimob Polda Papua.
