Retiring 55 MW PLTU Owned, Three Wheel Cement Factory In South Kalimantan 100 Percent Rely On PLN

JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) has officially supplied all of the electricity needs for the cement plant of PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa Tbk Plant Tarjun, in South Kalimantan. Thus, Indocement's 55 megawatt (MW) PLTU stopped operating and early retirement was replaced with 100 percent electricity from PLN.

The Governor of South Kalimantan, represented by the Expert Staff for Development Economics, Suparno, in his speech hoped that this moment would increase the positive investment climate in South Kalimantan, increase economic access, and continue to maximize the potential of existing resources.

"This strong synergy is to strengthen cross-sectoral cooperation in order to realize the vision of South Kalimantan Forward," he said as quoted from an official statement, Monday, August 15.

He also hopes that with the reliability of this electricity, more investors will come to South Kalimantan and help advance the area that will become the buffer for the National Capital of the Archipelago.

Meanwhile, PLN's Sumatra and Kalimantan Regional Business Director, Adi Lumakso said, this transition began on August 3, 2022 in order to improve the reliability of Indocement's electricity supply. Furthermore, Indocement will stop operating the company's steam power plant (PLTU) and become a customer of PLN with a capacity of 55 MW.

"PLN is committed to serving and providing a reliable and quality electricity supply to support the cement production process and at competitive prices and encourage the investment climate in Indonesia, especially in the cement industry," Adi said.

Adi added that this shift would increase the productivity of the PLN electricity system. He asserted, PLN believes that the condition of sufficient electricity supply is a motor to drive the wheels of the economy.

Adi further explained that Kalimantan's electricity condition is very strong with the Interconnection system currently having an installed generating capacity of 2,164 MW and the highest peak load ever achieved in 2022 is 1,315 MW. Electrical system reserves in South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan and East Kalimantan generally reach 39 percent or equivalent to 849 MW reserve margin.

"Reserves for this system will increase with the entry of power plants up to 2024, of which the number will reach 600 MW," said Adi.

This Tiga Roda cement factory in South Kalimantan, in addition to producing cement, also produces ready-mixed concrete, as well as managing aggregates and tras mines. Its presence in the regions is very much needed to encourage accelerated development.

Indocement Director Antonius Marcos said, with this High Voltage Customer COD, PLN has realized a synergy with the industry. This is expected to contribute to the acceleration of economic growth and the resilience of the domestic industry.

"Representing the Management of ITP (Indocement), we express our deepest appreciation and gratitude to all parties involved who have worked hard to make our dreams come true," said Antonius

He believes this cooperation will increase the resilience and reliability of electricity supply and improve industrial competitiveness, as well as support President Joko Widodo's Nawacita, namely increasing productivity, increasing manufacturing export competitiveness, and strengthening strategic upstream industries.
