Since January, East Java Police Arrest 500 Suspects From 327 Gambling Cases

SURABAYA - The East Java Regional Police arrested 500 suspects related to gambling cases in their area from January to August. Hundreds of suspects were arrested by the police in the disclosure of 327 gambling cases.

"There are 500 suspects who were arrested from 327 police reports related to this online gambling," said Head of Public Relations of the East Java Police Kombes Dirmanto in Surabaya, Monday, August 15.

Dirmanto said the hundreds of gambling cases included dice, lottery cases, and others. Even from the hundreds of suspects who were arrested, there were several suspects involved in slot gambling.

"In addition to lottery, dice, in this case there is also slot gambling," he said.

However, Dirmanto did not provide details on the number of suspects or the viral slot gambling case. He confirmed that all the suspects arrested were dealers of the gambling in question.

"Specifically for lottery gambling, some of the suspects arrested are retailers. All of them are dealers. Same as retailers for lottery gambling," he said.

Kombes Dirmanto detailed that a number of articles were imposed on the suspects, including Article 27 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 46 paragraph 2 of Law No. 19 of 2016 concerning amendments to Law No. 11 of 2008 concerning ITE. Then there is Article 303 of the Criminal Code which regulates gambling crimes.

He also hopes that the community will not be involved in gambling, so that there will be no more similar cases in the jurisdiction of the East Java Regional Police.

"We take action against gamblers can provide a deterrent effect and prevent more people from falling into the world of gambling," he said.
