KARAWANG - The government of Karawang Regency, West Java is targeting to complete the repair of hundreds of damaged school buildings by 2023.

"We will continue to deal with the problem of damaged schools. The target is to finish in 2023," said Deputy Regent of Karawang, Aep Syaepuloh, as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, August 13.

In accordance with this target, it is hoped that by 2023 there will be no more damaged school buildings.

Head of the Karawang Public Works and Spatial Planning Department, Dedi Ahdiat, said that until now there are still around 100 school buildings that must be completed.

Based on data from the Department of Education, Youth and Sports Karawang, this year there were 468 elementary school classrooms and 163 junior high school buildings that were damaged.

In 2022, the Karawang Regency Government allocates a budget of around 10.8 billion to repair damage to elementary school buildings.

As for the handling of damage to junior high school buildings, the Karawang Regency Government has allocated a budget of around Rp. 8 billion.

Damaged school buildings that cannot be handled this year will be handled the following year or in 2023.

The principal of the Bayur Kidul 1 State Elementary School, Ahmad Kholiq, hopes that the damage to the buildings at his school will be repaired immediately. Because it worries students.

"We hope that the damaged school building will be repaired soon," he said.

This was conveyed, because with the damaged school building, it affected the public's interest in sending their children to that school.

“People are worried about sending their children to our school, because the condition of the building is damaged. Now the number of students has decreased, very few people send them to our schools because the school buildings have been damaged for a long time, have not been repaired," he said.
