National Police Chief Idham Azis: Polri Must Be Neutral In Pilkada, No Bargaining

JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Idham Azis reminded his staff to remain neutral and not support the candidate pairs who will contest the 2020 Regional Election.

"The issue of the neutrality of Polri members, I have told you that we are not allowed to go into politics," General Idham said in a joint video conference with all regional police chiefs discussing the neutrality of Polri in the simultaneous regional elections, Jakarta, as reported by Antara, Tuesday, November 17.

In holding the 2020 Pilkada Simultaneously, the task of the National Police is to maintain and secure the pilkada to run smoothly, orderly and safely.

If there are members of the Police who violate or are not neutral, said the Chief of Police, they will be subject to disciplinary sanctions and sanctions with the code of ethics.

"There is no bargaining regarding this neutrality matter. All members of the National Police must be neutral, no one should be involved in politics," said the National Police Chief.

He ensured that the Police would not carry out special operations or silent operations during the 2020 simultaneous regional elections.

"There is no silent operation, no special operations or covert operations. Just do as you are told," said Idham.

The National Police Chief also ordered all regional police chiefs to carry out their orders in accordance with the coordination of all election administrators in Indonesia.

"Coordination with the KPU, Bawaslu and TNI," said Idham.

The voting is planned to be held simultaneously on December 9, 2020.

There are 270 regions that will carry out the 2020 simultaneous regional elections with details of 9 provinces, 224 regencies and 37 cities.
