Iraq Hangs 21 Terrorists Who Carried Out Suicide Attacks In Tal Afar

JAKARTA - Iraq hanged 21 convicted terrorists and murderers on Monday, November 17. According to the Iraqi Interior Ministry, it was the latest in a series of mass executions carried out since they conquered ISIS in 2017.

The convicts from the Nassiriya City prison in southern Iraq are the ones who were involved in the two suicide attacks. The attack is said to have killed dozens of people in the city of Tal Afar.

No details were given about the identities of those who were executed or the crimes they committed. Iraq has tried hundreds of suspected extremists and carried out a number of mass executions since defeating ISIS fighters in US-backed military actions during 2014-2017.

Human rights groups accuse Iraq and other regional forces of inconsistency in judicial processes and flawed trials that tend to lead to unfair sentences. Iraq denies the allegations, claiming that their trial is fair.

The Islamic State group captured a third of Iraq's territory in 2014 and was largely conquered in that region and in neighboring Syria three years later.
