Optimizing Food Expo 2022, BNI Brings Spices To Hong Kong Market

JAKARTA - The potential of Indonesian spices and food products in the Hong Kong market is increasingly open along with the number of potential buyers.

PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. or BNI (stock code: BBNI) continues to optimize this potential by participating in the 2022 Food Expo held by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) on 11-15 August 2022.

Through the BNI Hong Kong Overseas Branch Office (KCLN) and the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI), BNI created the Indonesia Pavilion with the theme "Indonesia-Spice Up the World".

Inspired the spirit of the 77th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, for the Indonesia Pavilion at the 2022 Hong Kong Food Expo, BNI brought in superior spice and food products produced by Xpora MSMEs such as black pepper, white pepper, cinnamon, cloves, cashews, walnuts, coffee, instant godog noodles and many other products.

Besides BNI, other HIMBARA banks such as BRI and Bank Mandiri also participated in this event. The purpose of holding the Indonesia Pavilion is to promote spices and Indonesian specialties that are suitable to be marketed in Hong Kong.

General Manager of BNI Hong Kong Endah Tjahyani said processed food products are one of the largest components of Indonesia's exports exported to Hong Kong.

This is also influenced by the Hong Kong diaspora ecosystem which is dominated by up to 90% by Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI).

Through the Indonesia Pavilion at the 2022 Food Expo, Endah said that BNI is targeting a target market outside the diaspora ecosystem, namely the local Hong Kong community to get to know Indonesian spices and special foods, which are certainly no less good than products from other countries that are currently circulating in Hong Kong. .

“BNI continues to actively look for potential buyers to be able to bring MSME products for Go-Global to Hong Kong. We are also proud to be part of the first Indonesia Pavilion at the 2022 Food Expo Hong Kong. We hope that by participating in this event, we can simultaneously encourage trade transactions and help Indonesian products to enter and be accepted in the local Hong Kong market,” he said.

Endah continued to optimize the Hong Kong market in line with the assignment from the Ministry of SOEs which mandated BNI as a global bank from Indonesia. The company itself already has the flagship BNI Xpora program which has been running quite progressively throughout the middle of this year.

"With BNI Xpora, we continue to look for potential MSME players who can penetrate the global market, especially in Hong Kong, which has a diaspora community as well as has a role as a hub for various kinds of food products that can later be sent to many countries," he added.

Meanwhile, in addition to the spice and food exhibition, BNI and the Indonesian Consulate General also invited potential buyers to directly see and taste Indonesian food products, with the aim of opening up business potential through business matching between buyers and sellers.

The Indonesian Consul General for Hong Kong, Ricky Suhendar, said that the participation in the 2022 Food Expo is an effort to bring Indonesian products to be better known in the Hong Kong community.

"We hope that the synergy between the Indonesian Consulate General and BNI and other Himbaras will encourage an increase in exports between Indonesia and Hong Kong."

The Indonesia Pavilion is located in the Public Hall of the Hong Kong Conventional Center by presenting 430 exhibitors as well as representatives from several countries represented by the Agricultural Trade Promotion Center, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Chongqing Municipality from Mainland China, the Aomori Prefecture of Japan, Japan External Trade Organization.
