Riau BPBD Deploys Water Bomber Helicopters To Fight Forest And Land Fires In Rokan Hulu

PEKANBARU - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Riau Province deployed two water bomber helicopters to extinguish forest and land fires (karhutla) in Rokan Hulu Regency.

Head of BPBD Riau Province, M. Edy Afrizal, said that a 25-hectare land fire in Rokan IV Koto, Rokan Hulu Regency.

Today, he said, land fires are still going on in the area near the Bukit Suligi protected forest.

Efforts to extinguish forest and land fires are still being carried out by officers with the support of two water-bombing helicopters.

"However, the fire has not been completely extinguished, due to the difficulty of water sources in the fire area," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 10.

On Tuesday (9/8) morning until noon, his party has also deployed two helicopters each to extinguish forest and land fires in the area, while on Wednesday afternoon two helicopters were also deployed for similar efforts.

"It is difficult to extinguish the fire because the water source is far away, about eight kilometers there is only water from the location of the fire. Besides being difficult to find water sources, reports from BPBD Rohul (Rokan Hulu) that the fire is also quite extensive, around 25 hectares," he said.
