Jokowi On The Job Creation Law: Wong Who Proposed Us And Was Approved, Period To Issue A Perppu?
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) finally responded to demands for student and labor demonstrations that urged him to issue a Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) on Job Creation or Law Number 11 of 2020. Jokowi asserted that as the proponent of the law, this request was certainly not will be obeyed.
Moreover, in the discussion, the Omnibus Law Bill on Work Creation which has now been promulgated was discussed for months in accordance with the constitutional process and he admitted that it was quite difficult to submit a draft law. So it is impossible for him to issue a Perppu.
"Wong is the one who proposed us, how difficult it will be when we agree to issue the Perppu. After all, we are the ones who propose to issue a Perppu," said Jokowi in his exclusive interview with Rosiana Silalahi which was broadcast on Kompas TV, Monday, November 16.
Jokowi said that before it was passed, the Job Creation Bill had been discussed for eight months in the DPR. In addition, in the process, all party factions in the DPR which he considered represented the wishes of the public had provided notes and input on the legislation. Therefore, Jokowi felt that he did not need to issue a Perppu.
If there are things that need to be improved, Jokowi assesses this can be done through a derivative regulation which is currently being discussed by the relevant ministries and institutions.
"The most important thing is how this law is corrected, if there are things that have not been accommodated then accommodated in the PP and Perpres. I think so," he said.
In addition, Jokowi also requested that all parties, without exception, want to provide input so that it can be included in the rules of the Job Creation Law. Because, if there are parties invited and then refuse to speak for any reason, of course this will make it difficult for the government.
"Yes, if we don't want to talk to them, what do we do. We are also difficult, right, we also can't catch what we want. But once again the government will keep inviting, especially in the making of PP and Perppres, so that wishes that have not been included in this law are accommodated. "he said.
Previously reported, in a number of mass demonstrations of workers and students voicing rejection of Law Number 11 of 2020, they often asked President Jokowi to issue a Perppu to cancel this law.
However, this request had previously been answered by Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko. At that time, he said it was certain that President Jokowi would sign the legislation that was passed by the DPR on October 5.
In addition, he said Jokowi has also communicated with other parties regarding the formulation of derivative regulations from this Law. Discussions, he continued, have been carried out with various groups and this will continue to be done. "(The discussion, red) will not stop," he said.
Not long after Moeldoko stated this, on November 2, President Jokowi officially signed the controversial law. The government has also officially uploaded a copy of this law via the jdih.setneg.go.id site with a total of 1,187 pages.
