Allegedly Due To Leaking Gas, 5 Houses Caught Fire In Belawan Medan Until One Family Died
MEDAN - Five houses in a densely populated settlement on Jalan Cilacap Barat, Belawan II Village, Medan Belawan District, Medan City, caught fire. As a result of the fire, 4 people from the same family died.
The head of the Medan City Fire Prevention and Fighting Service, Albon Sidauruk said, the four victims who died were Hamidah (75), Yafizam (50), Winda (46) and M Zulham (15). Meanwhile, the victims suffered injuries in the fire incident, namely Lisa (50) and Mutiara (20).
"Yes, there is a house on fire and there are 4 victims who died in one house, still one family," said Albon, Thursday, August 4.
In the fire, officers deployed 8 fleet units and were assisted by a rescue car belonging to the Indonesian Navy (AL) at Lantamal I Belawan, Medan City.
Albon said the fire was extinguished an hour later. Firefighters are still at the site of the fire to carry out cooling.
"Meanwhile, we have evacuated the four dead victims and taken them to the Pelindo Hospital in Belawan," he explained.
So far, the exact cause of the fire is not known. It is strongly suspected that the fire was caused by a gas cylinder leak.
"The suspicion is that it was a gas leak," he said.
From the information obtained, Albon said that before the fire occurred, the victim had been doing cooking activities in the kitchen of his house.
"Allegations from members' statements in the field came from gas stoves, gas leaks. Therefore, the fire quickly spread. If it is suspected from our members, there was cooking activity. Then, it happened at 04.10 WIB," he said.
Now, the fire case is being investigated by the Belawan Harbor Police to determine the cause of the fire.
