Terror, A Number Of Houses In Jember Were Damaged And Vehicles Were Burned, The Police Are Still Investigating

JEMBER - Jember Resort Police officers investigated the case of the destruction of a number of houses and the burning of residents' vehicles by an unknown group of people in one of the hamlets in Mulyorejo Village, Jember Regency, East Java.

"The case is still under investigation and the crime scene (TKP) has been processed, so we will complete the investigation," said Jember Police Chief AKBP Hery Purnomo as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, August 4.

Several houses and vehicles of residents in Baban Timur Hamlet, Mulyorejo Village, Silo District, Jember Regency were damaged by burning by an unknown group of people three times in a row, namely on 3 July 2022, 30 July 2022, and finally on 3 August 2022.

Not only houses and vehicles were damaged, one school building was slightly damaged, two poskamling units were slightly damaged, one generator was heavily damaged, and even the property of local residents amounting to Rp. 100 million was also looted by an unknown group of people.

"We actually sent a platoon of police officers to guard there, but an unknown group of people attacked again at another location that was not guarded," he said.

Police officers were reported to be guarding Baban Timur Hamlet, but an unknown group of people attacked one of the residents' houses and set fire to a local resident's vehicle in Dampikrejo Hamlet, Mulyorejo Village, Silo District on Wednesday (3/8) night.

"Today, I and the 0824 Dandim will go to the location to reduce the situation so that the atmosphere remains conducive," he said.

Meanwhile, the Sempolan Sector Police Chief AKP Suhartanto said the incident began with a case of abuse carried out by residents of Mulyorejo Village to victims who were residents of Kalibaru, Banyuwangi.

"Police officers have arrested the perpetrators of the abuse, but the victim and his colleagues did not accept it, so they attacked Baban Timur Hamlet, causing damage to houses and vehicles," he said.

According to him, the destruction of houses and burning of vehicles in the border area of Jember Regency-Banyuwangi Regency occurred in two hamlets, namely Baban Timur Hamlet and Dampikrejo Hamlet.

The results of the temporary data collection show that seven houses were damaged, three cars and 25 motorbikes were burned, one car and one truck were damaged, one generator set was heavily damaged, two security posts were slightly damaged, and one school building was also slightly damaged.

Not only that, the results of data collection carried out by the police are based on the confessions of a number of victims whose houses were damaged, namely that their total assets of Rp. 265 million were missing.
