The New Building Of The UGM Faculty Of Engineering Has A New Name, Prof. Roosseno Soerjohadikoesoemo

JAKARTA - A new building at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) has a new name. This campus bears the name of Mr Beton Indonesia who is also the founder and Dean of the UGM Faculty of Engineering Prof. Roosseno Soerjohadikoesoemo.

"The name of this building is to commemorate the services of Prof. Roosseno who founded the engineering faculty. Approximately 76 years ago, Prof. Roosseno together with Bandung Engineering students and including Herman Johanes founded the Bandoeng Technical College in Yogyakarta in 1946 which became the forerunner to the establishment of the UGM Faculty of Engineering, "said the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ir Selo, in a written statement in Jakarta, Wednesday, August 3, quoted from Antara.

Roosseno is a civil engineering scientist who was given the mandate of the head of state to design and build a number of lighthouse projects in Indonesia at that time. His creations are more than 32 historical buildings including buildings, bridges, hotels, ports including the restoration of Borobudur Temple.

A number of these buildings are still standing firmly, such as the National Monument (Monas), Istiqlal Mosque, Gelora Bung Karno Senayan, Hotel Indonesia, etc.

The recipient of the Mahaputra Utama Star award in 1984 has also made various achievements that are not only recognized at the national level, but also at the international level.

His actions made President Soekarno mandate a number of strategic positions to be carried out, such as the minister of economy, minister of transportation, and minister of public works.

As a scholar, his expertise is not only tested in the development of engineering construction engineering, but also has a high concern and dedication in advancing education in Indonesia.

The name Roosseno is immortalized for the ten-story Engineering Research and Innovation Center (ERIC) building located in the engineering faculty.

"This is a very special gift on his birthday, we are very grateful and honored for the extraordinary appreciation to Prof. Roosseno, we really hope that, by embedding his name in this new building, it can be an encouragement for all academics in dedicating knowledge and knowledge to build the country,” said the representative of the Roosseno family, Cyril Noerhadi.
