Don't Worry If Your Child Has A Fever After Immunization, Parents Just Give Fever-reducing Medicine

TANGERANG - The Health Office (Dinkes) of Tangerang City, Banten Province appealed to parents whose children experience symptoms after immunization such as fever or swelling at the injection site, it is enough to give fever-reducing medicine or compress using plain water.

"If the child experiences this, it is better for the child to be given time to rest, while monitoring his condition regularly. In a fever, the mother can give fever-reducing medicine or apply compresses with plain water," said Head of the Tangerang City Health Office, Dr. Dini Anggraeni in Tangerang, Between, Wednesday, August 3rd.

He said the possibility of Post-Immunization Adverse Events (AEFI) is rare for children. However, the officer will conduct an interview first before the injection is carried out.

"That's where the important role of medical personnel when implementing immunization, by interviewing parents about the condition of the child, whether he is sick or not," he said.

He appealed to all parents who still have toddlers and have not received complete basic immunizations to immediately come to the posyandu or health center to receive immunizations so that children are protected from diseases such as measles, rubella, diphtheria, polio, tetanus, hepatitis B and others.

"By giving this vaccine, the child becomes more protected. And don't forget to optimize the toddler's immunity by giving him the best nutritional intake during his growth period," he said.

He added that if the child is mildly ill, immunizations can still be carried out and the illness is treated. Immunization in a state of mild illness will not affect the formation of immunity or antibodies.

"However, if the child's condition is sick and it is not possible to get immunizations, it should be postponed, treatment is carried out until the child's health recovers. If the mother is late in giving immunizations from the existing schedule or is irregular, the next immunization does not need to be repeated and can be continued according to schedule," he said.

The Tangerang City Government (Pemkot) through the Health Office is currently intensively holding the National Child Immunization Month (BIAN), which has started since Monday (1/8/22).

BIAN takes place in all Posyandu in Tangerang City through 38 Puskesmas, with a target target of toddlers from 9 months to 59 months for additional immunization against measles and rubella. And chasing immunizations to complete incomplete immunizations for children aged 12 to 59 months, said Dini Anggraeni.
