Garbage Makes Medan Sumpek, Bobby Nasution Says What Must Be Done To Change Mindset
MEDAN - Mayor of Medan, North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution reminded that waste management must be carried out from upstream to the final disposal site (TPA) Falls. "One of the efforts that must be made is to change the mindset of the community. easy," said the Mayor in a written remarks read by the Acting Assistant for Economic Development of the Medan City Secretariat, Mansursyah in Medan, reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 2.
When opening the Focus Group Discussion with the topic "Building People's Mindset and Economic Value of Waste" at the Grand Mercure Hotel Medan, Bobby Nasution said that the people of Medan City, both consciously and unconsciously, always throw garbage without sorting it first, even though there is waste that has economic value.
Because either organic waste or inorganic waste has economic value, it can be found from the establishment of a waste bank through sorting the waste that will go to the Waterfall TPA in Medan Marelan.
It is known that the Mayor of Medan Bobby Nasution issued Circular Letter No. 651.1/1986 dated March 2, 2022, containing the establishment of waste banks in OPD, sub-districts, and urban villages.
"For this reason, it is necessary to carry out various continuous and continuous socializations to achieve changes in people's behavior towards awareness of the economic value of waste," he explained.
In addition to sorting waste, he admitted, the placement of waste banks in every kelurahan and traditional markets is also very important for sorting before being taken to the final disposal site.
Data from the Medan City Environmental Service stated that the progress of organic and inorganic waste to the Waterfall TPA in the second semester of 2021 was reduced by three percent from 2,000 tons of waste per day, and the first semester of 2022 is an estimated 10.2 percent reduction.
"If a massive waste bank is implemented, I believe that waste will be reduced more. The positive impact is that waste turns into gold because of its economic value," said Mansursyah.
