Monitoring A Number Of Markets In Banda Aceh, BBPOM Confiscates 2,920 Illegal Cosmetics Starting From Lipstick, Face Masks And Eyebrow Pencils
ACEH - The Center for Drug and Food Control (BBPOM) in Banda Aceh confiscated 2,920 cosmetics that were illegal or did not have a distribution permit and contained hazardous materials.
"There were 2,920 cosmetics of various types that were confiscated in market control operations in a number of areas in Aceh Province," said Head of BBPOM Banda Aceh Yudi Noviandi in Banda Aceh, Antara, Tuesday, August 2.
Yudi Noviandi said the 2,817 cosmetics seized had a selling value of around Rp. 51.1 million. As well as 103 cosmetics containing hazardous ingredients with an economic value of IDR 2.1 million.
The illegal cosmetics and containing hazardous materials were found in 52 facilities or places of sale spread across four regencies and cities in Aceh Province.
The points of sale are in Banda Aceh City consisting of 21 facilities, Lhokseumawe City as many as 15 facilities, North Aceh Regency including 14 facilities, and Aceh Besar Regency consisting of two facilities.
"The confiscated cosmetics without a distribution permit included lipstick, face masks, eyebrow pencils, and others. While dangerous cosmetics contained mercury and lead," said Yudi Noviandi.
According to Yudi Noviandi, mercury and lead are heavy metals. Its use causes spots on the skin, allergies and irritation. Long-term use causes damage to the eyes, lungs, digestion, nerves, kidneys, and immune system.
For facilities that sell cosmetics without a distribution permit and contain hazardous materials, follow-up is given in accordance with the provisions of the applicable laws and regulations.
"The confiscated cosmetics are then destroyed. We continue to remind business actors not to sell cosmetics without a distribution permit and contain dangerous ingredients. We urge consumers to be smart in buying," said Yudi Noviandi.
