Even Though The KPU Is Working At Its Maximum, The Election Lawsuits Will Almost Certainly Still Exist
JAKARTA - The KPU is asked to work professionally in organizing the 2024 General Election (Pemilu). Even if the KPU will work optimally, election lawsuits will still arise.
"To the KPU I want to convey a message, you must really work to organize this election as well as possible, with full professionalism. Whatever you do, there must be someone who will sue. There is no election without a lawsuit. It has always been like that," said Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD in a written statement received in Jakarta, Tuesday, August 2.
He also invited all Indonesian people to welcome the 2024 General Election as well as possible. The former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) also hopes that the 2024 General Election can produce members of the DPR, DPRD, DPD, president and vice president who are committed to further advancing Indonesia.
Coordinating Minister Mahfud said, the government will guard the election as well as possible. Regarding preparations for the 2024 General Election, the Government has discussed with the KPU, DPR, and Bawaslu about all the things needed, including legal instruments, budgets, institutions, and scheduling.
"So that there will be no misunderstanding. For example, there is news today that the election is a bit delayed because the Government funds are slow to disburse; that's not true, because it has been discussed with the KPU and all stakeholders. The funds needed are fully provided by the Government," he explained, quoted from Between.
Currently, he continued, the jointly agreed funds amounted to Rp1.24 trillion. The disbursement of the funds will be phased in 2022, 2023, and 2024 due to its multilayer nature.
"It's just that if it's not liquidated now, it's easy, the KPU just needs to make the DIPA. If the DIPA is ready, it's easy. If it doesn't exist, the DIPA can't because it violates state finances. Therefore, the government guarantees this. The following year's budget provided, the next one is provided," he said.
He also said that the government had approved the KPU's proposal regarding an increase in fees for the committee, although it was not 100 percent. However, regarding operational activities such as the construction of buildings in the regions, the Government has not approved it, he said.
