A Year Launched, Disney + Customers Transcend 73.7 Million
JAKARTA - Exactly a year after Disney + was launched. The movie streaming service has 73.7 million active subscribers worldwide.
Launching CNET, Friday, November 13, since it was first launched in 2019, Disney + has targeted 60-90 million subscribers by 2024. Even so, Disney + has not managed to overtake Netflix, which had more than 195 million subscribers in the last quarter of 2020.
It is known that customers are interested in the promo shows offered by Disney +. More than 10 million new subscribers signed up, when the Disney + platform was launched.
The number of subscribers and the number of viewers has continued to soar, during times of the pandemic. Disney + noted, the number of active viewers on its platform jumped from 33.5 million subscribers in the second quarter to 57.5 million in the third quarter of 2020.
A number of Disney + flagship shows such as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Frozen 2 and Onward are the main attraction. Disney + is also quite diligent about releasing new films such as the Broadway musical Hamilton and the live-action Mulan which debuted exclusively on Disney + last September.
Seeing a positive trend, Disney + further claims it will bring more subscribers to its streaming platform. On the other hand, Disney + competitors, such as Apple TV, have reportedly only gained 22 million subscribers since its launch in July.
