The Fate Of TikTok In The US Is Being Swayed By Donald Trump
JAKARTA - TikTok has felt neglected by the President of the United States (US) Donald Trump recently. Now the fate of the creative video platform is not clear what to do.
Reportedly, TikTok has asked the US federal court to address this. Previously, TikTok had several talks over deals with US companies, until finally finalizing a proposal to place TikTok under the supervision of the companies Oracle and Walmart, which will also each have a financial stake in the company.
However, TikTok said that until now there was no clarity or decision from Trump. Is it approved or not.
According to reports, the deal is currently under a national security review by the inter-agency Committee for Foreign Investment in the US or CFIUS, which is chaired by the finance department.
"With the November 12 CFIUS deadline approaching and without an extension, we have no choice but to petition the court to defend our rights and the rights of our more than 1,500 US employees," TikTok said as quoted by Federal News, Thursday November 12th.
Previously, it was reported that the proposal by TikTok to be acquired by the US company was not without reason, because Trump had concerns that the Chinese government could spy on TikTok users in the US, if the application remained under the ownership of China-based ByteDance.
However, TikTok denies this. But TikTok has been urged to sell its US operations under an executive order Trump signed in August.
Not only that, the Trump administration has also asked internet service providers to block the use of TikTok from US IP addresses, as did India when it banned TikTok, which makes TikTok unusable in the country.
