Money Winda Earl At Maybank Missing, DPR Commission XI Golkar Faction: OJK Must Strengthen Consumer Protection
JAKARTA - The country's financial services industry has come under the spotlight again after the alleged loss of funds worth Rp22.8 billion belonging to e-Sport athlete Winda Lunardi or Winda Earl which was stored at Bank Maybank. Because of that, Puteri Anetta Komarudin, a member of Commission XI, urged the strengthening of consumer protection.
Puteri also requested that the financial services authority (OJK) immediately exercise its authority to assess the internal supervision system of each bank. Both those related to the Winda Earl case and the banking industry in general. This is to prevent a recurrence of a similar case.
"Moreover, each bank is obliged to establish a risk management and control system according to the provisions. However, of course its implementation still needs to be monitored and evaluated so that potential problems can be detected as early as possible and quickly handled, both by the relevant bank and OJK. That way, cases similar things can be avoided in the future, "he said, when contacted by VOI, Thursday, November 12.
On the other hand, Puteri also reminded OJK's role in ensuring consumer protection in the banking service sector according to the OJK Law and POJK No.1 of 2013.
"In this case, OJK is obliged to facilitate the mediation process between consumers and the bank in order to obtain a settlement agreement. Banks that are proven to have violated this provision can also be subject to administrative sanctions in accordance with the applicable regulations," he said.
As is well known, the national banking industry has suffered several cases of loss of customer funds. As a result, the implementation of banking consumer protection is again a concern. Moreover, consumer complaints in 2019, as collected by the Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI), are still dominated by consumers in the banking sector.
According to Puteri, it is feared that the high number of complaints and the emergence of banking cases will affect the level of public trust in national banking services. Therefore, he assessed that the internal banking system is very important.
"Customer trust is a crucial thing that underlies the banking business. This trust arises if banks are able to provide security guarantees for deposited customer funds. So, don't let the loss of customer funds become a bad precedent that continues to threaten the good relationship between customers and banks," he said. .
Furthermore, Puteri also requested that the case of the loss of customer funds amounting to Rp.22.8 billion can be resolved in accordance with the applicable law.
"We certainly support the investigation and deepening process thoroughly by the authorities to find out what cases are happening so that this case can be resolved properly in accordance with applicable regulations," he said.
