North Sumatra Police Failed To Send 91 Illegal PMIs To Malaysia
MEDAN - Ditpolairud personnel of the North Sumatra Police in collaboration with the Tanjung Balai Police thwarted the illegal dispatch of 91 Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) to neighboring Malaysia.
The 91 illegal PMIs came from nine provinces in Indonesia, namely North Sumatra, Aceh, West Sumatra, Bengkulu, Jambi, East Java, Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra), NTB and NTT.
Director of Ditpolairud North Sumatra Police Kombes Toni Hariadi said the illegal PMI was arrested while crossing into Malaysia from Asahan waters.
The illegal PMIs were arrested, along with one ship captain and three crew members, bringing the total to 95 people.
Toni said the team received information on the Silo Asahan River, Tuesday, (26/7) at around 22.00 WIB there was an illegal PMI shipment.
Then, Ditpolairud personnel using a ship disguised themselves to the location and arrested illegal PMIs and brought them to Tanjung Balai, where they were brought to the North Sumatra Police.
Of the 91 illegal PMIs, 73 of them are men and 18 are women.
"The plan is that the illegal PMIs will be brought to the Selangor area, Malaysia on a beach, and they will enter around three in the morning.
Deputy Director of Criminal Investigation at the North Sumatra Police, AKBP Alamsyah Hasibuan, stated that in this case his party stipulates Article 81 Subs Article 88 of Law Number 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers in conjunction with Article 55 of the Criminal Code and Article 302 paragraph 1 of Law Number 17 of 2008 concerning Shipping to Indonesian Migrant Workers. crew and ship captains.
"The modus operandi is, there are several agents recruiting and then accommodating and sending illegal PMIs that do not comply with applicable procedures and regulations," said Alamsyah.
