Bawaslu Asks To Beware Of Security Disturbances In The 2024 Election Stage
JAKARTA - Chairman of Bawaslu Rahmat Bagja reminded the security forces to be aware of the stages that intersect with the number of participants and the type of election because it has the potential to cause disruption of security and public order in the 2024 Election.
"This has the potential for kamtibmas, especially at the intersection of stages that involve or gather the community, for example in the stages of campaigning, voting, counting votes, and recapitulation," he said in a press release reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 27.
Bagja asked the security forces to be aware of the overlapping stages with the large number of participants and types of elections.
In addition, according to Bagja, election law enforcement sometimes creates pros and cons among the public. These things usually have the potential to disrupt security and order.
He explained that the implementation of law enforcement can be sourced from the process of handling violations and resolving disputes.
In the realm of administrative violations, he said, there are administrative sanctions related to the status of the candidate pair participants. Such a process can occur even after the results of the voting and vote counting have been completed.
As a result of violations committed by election participants, he explained, they could have consequences, such as the cancellation of their candidacy. For example, proven to have committed structured, systematic and massive (TSM) violations.
Sometimes, continued Bagja, there are those who reject the sanctions for the cancellation of the candidate pair who are proven to have committed the structured, systematic and massive (TSM) violation.
"This will be able to disrupt public order, for example if the public is not satisfied, the supporters of the supported candidate are not satisfied, usually there will be riots. This TSM has the consequence of disqualifying the candidate," he said.
According to him, the potential for disturbances in public order and security needs to be watched out for so that the democratic party runs well, produces quality elections, and of course can maintain stability, security and order in society.
