Task Force: Strict Biosecurity Implementation Efforts To Break The PMK Virus Chain
JAKARTA - Coordinator of the Expert Team for the Task Force for Handling Mouth and Nail Diseases (Satgas PMK) Wiku Adisasmito said the application of strict and precise biosecurity was an effort to stop the spread of the virus in Indonesia.
Wiku said that disinfection or decontamination of areas and equipment on farms needs to be carried out regularly.
"In addition, restrictions must also be applied so that not just anyone can enter the animal husbandry area that is prone to FMD. The public can take steps to disinfect cages and contaminated equipment using easy and inexpensive materials such as citric acid and boric acid," he said. Wiku was reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 26.
Wiku emphasized that everyone who wants to enter the farm area is not allowed to wear the same clothes or attributes of the cage if they want to visit several other cages.
This is to reduce the risk of carrying the virus through people who can then infect healthy farm animals.
"The FMD outbreak has had a huge impact on our economy. The daily death rate for livestock due to FMD is not just a meaningless number, especially for breeders," said Wiku.
This is because there are many farmers whose income depends on livestock or products from their livestock for the breeders to spread the FMD outbreak. Of course, it directly has an unfavorable impact on their main livelihood.
