Despite Being Separated For The 2022 World Championships, Apriyani/Fadia Are The Mainstay In The 2024 Olympics
JAKARTA - The Indonesian women's doubles duo Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia will not color the title race at the 2022 Badminton World Championships. However, they are still PBSI's mainstay projections for the 2024 Olympics.
Apri/Fadia togetherness had to be separated for a while at the 2022 World Championship which will take place from 22-28 August in Japan. The main reason is that Apriyani/Fadia are not the women's doubles pair on the BWF invitation list.
Apri and Fadia actually both received invitations, but with different partners. Apri was registered in the invitation to duet with Greysia Polii, while Fadia was duet with Ribka Sugiarto.
Fadia will continue to advance to this tournament with Rebekah as the women's doubles ranking 26th. Meanwhile, Apri, who was in 6th place, was forced to leave because his duet partner, Greysia Polii, had decided to retire.
Regarding the separation of Aprii/Fadia at the 2022 World Championship, Rionny Mainaky as the Head of PBSI's Achievement Development Division has no problem with this. Because, this separation is temporary where the two will remain a duet permanently until they reach an Olympic-class event.
"Personally, from the coach and the players, there is no problem (Fadia is again paired with Ribka)," said Rionny to the media crew at the Cipayung National Training Center.
"Whatever the result (the World Championship), he (Fadia) with Apri. Indeed, after trying, from the coach to try, we saw that they could and proved (compact)," he continued.
"We projected them (Apriyani/Fadia) into the Olympics, because Apri has experience, I think it fits them well. He has shown his quality and is feared."
Fadia / Rebekah are not the only ones who will appear at the 2022 World Championships. Because, there is still Syaikah / Nita Viola Marwah who gets a pass after being on the reserve list.
