Menkumham Yasonna Laoly Asks The Police To Make A Strategy To Fix The Bhayangkara Corps Internal Affairs

JAKARTA - Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Yasonna H Laoly encouraged the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to make a strategy to improve the Bhayangkara Corps internally in order to increase public trust.

"Internally, the National Police are also facing problems in stemming and fostering police officers who tarnish the image of the institution," said Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna H Laoly in a written statement received in Jakarta, Tuesday, July 26.

This was conveyed by Yasonna when giving a speech at a coordination meeting in the field of supervision between the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) and the National Police.

The need for improvement in the internal police is motivated by the public's tendency to choose public media as a channel when facing actions by police officers, rather than reporting it directly to the internal police inspector.

"This is an important note for the internal police related to the public's trust in the internal police supervisory agency," said Yasonna, who is a member of the National Police.

He said besides having the task of giving consideration to the President regarding the direction of Polri's policy, as well as the appointment and dismissal of the National Police Chief, Kompolnas also has the authority to handle complaints or complaints related to the performance of the Police.

"To serve these complaints or complaints, Kompolnas must synergize with Polri's internal supervisors in order to create a precise Polri," he said, according to Antara.

Yasonna believes that efforts are needed to increase the independence of the functional supervisory role by Kompolnas as mandated by Law Number 2 of 2002 concerning the Indonesian National Police, and the 16 priority programs of the National Police Chief.

This is related to the leadership's supervision of each activity, strengthening the supervisory function, and supervision by the justice-seeking community.

As a member of Kompolnas, Yasonna understands that in practice this is not easy. Because humans don't like being watched. However, the Minister of Law and Human Rights hopes that through the coordination meeting held there will be a common understanding and mission.
