Preventing Sexual Harassment, Transjakarta Operates Pink Bus For Women

JAKARTA - PT Transjakarta operates a pink bus specifically designed for female passengers. The pink bus, which has just started operating today, serves the Pasar Baru - Kalideres route (Corridor 3).

The Head of the Transjakarta Corporate Secretary Division said that it was not only female customers who could ride the Transjakarta pink bus. The driver and the officers assigned to this bus are also women.

"There will be bus service officers (PLB) to accompany, both the driver and the PLB on duty are all women", said Anang in his statement, Monday, July 25.

The pink bus will operate from 05.00-22.00 WIB with a regular fare of IDR 3.500. Customers are required to tap in and tap out the electronic money card (KUE) at the gate stop.

Anang said that the operation of the pink bus was Transjakarta's effort to prevent sexual harassment. This refers to cases of sexual harassment on public transport.

"Customers' comfort is our top priority. This pink bus service is one of Transjakarta's efforts to take part in dealing with the problem of harassment in public transportation", said Anang.

Recently, there have been several cases of harassment on public transportation. Among them is the case on the city transportation (angkot) number 44 on the Ciputra-Kuningan route, as well as the case of a man masturbating on the KRL.

Meanwhile, Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Ahmad Riza Patria, also said that cases of sexual harassment on public transportation in 2022 will double compared to the previous year.

Based on Integrated Service Center for Women and Children Empowerment (P2TP2A) data, the number of sexual harassment cases in Jakarta in 2020 was 8 cases. The number of cases decreased slightly in 2021 with 7 cases. However, in 2022 that number jumped to 15 cases, even though it was only entering the middle of the year.

Most cases of sexual harassment occurred in East Jakarta with five cases, followed by North Jakarta, South Jakarta, and West Jakarta with three cases each, and Central Jakarta with one case. All of the victims were women with the youngest age range being 6 years old to the oldest 50 years.
