Weak After Being Questioned For 12 Hours At The Polda Metro Jaya, The Suspect In The Roy Suryo Temple Stupa Case Was Not Detained
JAKARTA - After undergoing examination as a suspect in the Borobudur Temple stupa meme case which was edited to resemble President Joko Widodo's face, Roy Suryo was not detained at Polda Metro Jaya.
"(Roy Suryo) was not detained," said the Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Pol. Endra Zulpan, quoting Antara, Saturday, July 23.
Zulpan explained that his health condition was the reason the former Minister of Youth and Sports was not detained.
"Yes (the reason) is sick," said Zulpan.
Roy Suryo has undergone 12 hours of examination as a suspect in the Borobudur Temple stupa meme case at the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) of the Metro Jaya Police.
Roy came out of the Ditreskrimum Building of the Polda Metro Jaya at around 22.20 WIB in a weak condition and received help using a wheelchair while heading to his car.
The police have named Roy Suryo as a suspect in the Borobudur Temple stupa meme case. Roy Suryo was reported to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police regarding hate speech containing SARA by representatives of Indonesian Buddhists.
The report was recorded with LP/B/0293/VI/2022/SPKT/BARESKRIM dated June 20, 2022.
In the report, the complainant included evidence in the form of a print out of the Twitter account @KRMTRoySUryo2.
Roy Suryo uploaded a meme of the Borobudur Temple stupa on Friday (10/6) as a protest against the policy to increase the entrance ticket price to Borobudur Temple by Rp. 750 thousand. The government later canceled the policy.
In his upload, Roy Suryo included the original account address of the original uploader of the meme.
He took down the upload because it was a polemic in the community and apologized to Buddhists.
Not only that, Roy was also reported on the same case by Herna Sutan to the Polda Metro Jaya. The report is received and registered with the number: LP/B/3042/VI/2022/SPKT/Polda Metro Jaya on 20 June 2022.
Roy Suryo was charged with Article 28 Paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 45 Paragraph 2 of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning ITE. Then also Article 156a of the Criminal Code and Article 15 of Law Number 1 of 1946 concerning the Criminal Law Regulations.
