Doctor Hastry Reveals The Importance Of Forensic Results To Reveal Crime Facts

SEMARANG – The Head of the Health Department of the Central Java Police, Kombes Pol. Summy Hastry Purwanti, revealed that the results of forensic examinations have a very important role in the process of revealing the facts of a criminal act. This was conveyed during an interview with Precision Dialogue with Police TV on Thursday, July 21, evening. In the interview, the first female policewoman in Asia with the title of Doctor of Forensics explained that forensic results are the most awaited scientific information in the criminal justice system. "Especially the results that determine the time of death of the victim, because it relates to the suitability of the alibis of witnesses and suspects. And also the cause of the victim's death can be used by the judge in court to give a verdict against the defendant," he said. In general, Dr. Hastry explained that in a justice system, the role of forensic medicine is to use scientific methods and approaches to make light of a crime related to the human body, both living and dead. Especially determining the cause of death of the victim who is suspected to be unnatural due to a crime. "Scientific results from forensic testing will determine the cause of death of the victim, whether it was suicide, the result of being killed or due to an accident," he said.

It was also explained that the process for handling bodies suspected of having died due to unnatural causes by the Forensic Doctor Team would certainly go through a predetermined procedure. And throughout Indonesia and even throughout the world, the procedure is certainly the same. Doctor Hastry explained that the autopsy process on a body was carried out based on a request from the investigator who handled a case of alleged criminal offense to the forensic medical team. Specifically, the request was to perform an autopsy on the body to determine the time or cause of death. Based on the request, as a first step the forensic doctor team at the hospital will record the bodies received and document the initial physical condition of the bodies. "After that, the forensic medicine team then carried out a series of scientific research actions on the corpse, both external examination and physical conditions inside the body," he explained. The results of the study can then be used to determine the cause of death and the time of death of the victim, which is of course to prove whether there is a match between the alibi statements of witnesses and suspects with the forensic results obtained. “This makes the results of forensic research very important in determining the results of the investigation of a criminal case. Therefore, the forensic medicine team is working to find the time of the victim's death," he explained. By knowing the time of the victim's death, it will be easier for officers to determine and examine eyewitnesses who knew or were at the crime scene at the time of the victim's death. In addition, the results of the forensic examination will also determine the cause of the victim's death, whether it was due to blunt objects, injuries from sharp objects, poisoning or due to illness. “So this victim died instantly because of being hit with a blunt object or sharp object earlier, or because of the pain he suffered due to contact with these objects. This will also determine the judge's decision in court in sending a verdict against the defendant," he concluded.
