Breakthrough And BEM SI Demonstrate Again To Reject The Job Creation Law Today

JAKARTA - The Joint People's Labor Movement (Gebrak) and the Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM SI) again held a demonstration against the Job Creation Law in the State Palace area today, Tuesday, November 10.

Gebrak, which consists of a combination of workers, students and the community will gather in front of the ILO Office at around 10.00 WIB. Then, proceed with a convoy towards the State Palace.

In today's action, Gebrak demanded that the government revoke the Omnibus Law and cancel a circular letter from the Minister of Manpower regarding the 2021 minimum wage that has not increased.

Meanwhile, BEM SI Central Coordinator, Remy Hastian said that his party would also hold a similar demonstration in the State Palace area at around 13.00 WIB.

"Coinciding with Heroes' Day, BEM All Indonesia will again enliven the State Palace as an attitude that students will not remain silent when the interests of the people are trampled by policy makers," Remy said in his statement, Tuesday, November 10.

Remy said, the reason for BEM SI to hold another action for the umpteenth time was because of the attitude of President Joko Widodo who did not seem to have the intention of issuing a government regulation in lieu of a law (perppu) which canceled the Job Creation Law amidst public rejection.

"Until now, the government has been silent and has not made the slightest effort to side with the people's decisions. Don't let the government forget who has the greatest power in a democratic country, not oligarchs or parties," said Remy.

Even so, Remy said that BEM SI BEM SI still urged the President to issue a Perppu to cancel the Job Creation Law with a demonstration.

"If not, the mass wave and rejection from various elements will also not be done to disrupt national stability in the Government Capital," he concluded.
