President Jokowi Receives Vietnam's Foreign Minister To Discuss Economic Cooperation

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo received an honorary visit from the Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu) Bui Thanh Son to discuss increasing cooperation between the two countries in the economic field.

"First in the trade sector. If you look at the trend, trade between the two countries continues to increase. The target of fulfilling trade of 10 billion US dollars has been exceeded, therefore the President said it is important for both countries to set new targets for the next few years. We will discuss it later at the meeting of the two foreign ministers," said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 20.

President Jokowi also entrusted Indonesian investors in Vietnam to get fair treatment.

"Of course, by creating conducive conditions for investors, of course, both parties' investment will continue to increase," said Retno.

The third message conveyed by President Jokowi was related to negotiations on the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) boundary between the two countries.

President Jokowi conveyed the importance of the technical team of negotiators speeding up the negotiations so that they can be resolved immediately.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, according to Retno, expressed appreciation and congratulations to Indonesia in overcoming COVID-19. In addition, the Vietnamese Foreign Minister also praised Indonesia's leadership in the G20.

"Also conveyed Vietnam's full support for Indonesia's chairmanship of ASEAN next year, in 2023," said Retno.
