Mouth And Nail Diseases Still Outbreak, BNPB Has Not Allowed Animal Markets In Central Lombok To Operate
PRAYA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has not allowed the opening of an animal market in the Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province as a result of the mouth and nail disease (PMK) which is still endemic.
"BNPB as the Task Force for Handling Mouth and Nail Diseases has not given permission to reopen the animal market until an undetermined time," said Head of the Agriculture and Livestock Service Office of Central Lombok Regency, Lalu Taufikurahman in Praya, Antara, Tuesday, July 19.
The local government has proposed an assessment for the opening of the animal market to the NTB provincial government, but so far it has not been allowed to open the animal market in order to prevent the spread of FMD in the NTB area.
"We are waiting for information from the central government, when it can be reopened," he said.
He said cases of FMD in Central Lombok have now reached 25 thousand cases, but as many as 23 thousand livestock have recovered from the FMD outbreak. With the condition of the case, several villages in the Central Lombok region have been free from PMK or entered the green zone. "A number of villages in Central Lombok are currently in the PMK green zone," he said.
Currently, vaccination services are still focused on areas that have never been exposed to FMD or healthy livestock. Meanwhile, livestock that have been exposed to FMD cannot be vaccinated.
"This first vaccine is for healthy livestock. The total achievement of livestock vaccination in Central Lombok has reached 1300 heads," said Lalu Taufikurahman.
The animal market in Central Lombok has been closed after the FMD outbreak in Central Lombok was discovered or after Eid al-Fitr and is still closed. This was done to limit the flow of livestock traffic in order to prevent the spread of the FMD virus.
