Man City Vs Liverpool, The Reds Failed To Top Of The English League After Playing 1-1

JAKARTA - Liverpool, who failed to return to the top of the standings after being jumped by Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City in the last 24 hours. Jurgen Klopp's men only drew 1-1 with Manchester City in the eighth week of the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester, Sunday local time (Monday WIB).

Meanwhile on the other hand, Kevin de Bruyne failed to convert the penalty that should have been the momentum for City to turn things around after falling behind to a 12-shot by Mohamed Salah, before Gabriel Jesus equalized.

According to Antara, the defending champion The Reds are now in third place with a collection of 17 points, behind Leicester (18) and Tottenham (17), while City (12) are now in 10th position sharing points with Arsenal. The Gunners lost 3-0 to Aston Villa moments later.

The early match promised a battle of agility between the two teams when Liverpool twice forced goalkeeper Ederson Moraes out of the nest to thwart the visitors' chances.

Liverpool took the lead in the 13th minute after Salah executed the penalty, which resulted for Kyle Walker's foul on Sadio Mane, only moments on the other side of the pitch Diogo Jota looked to push Raheem Sterling down but referee Craig Pawson shrugged off the incident.

City slowly started to get back up and managed to equalize with a goal from Gabriel Jesus, who first tricked Trent Alexander-Arnold into a shot that goalkeeper Alisson Becker could not anticipate in the 31st minute.

In the 41st minute, City have a golden opportunity to turn things around when Joe Gomez is caught doing a handball foul in the area on De Bruyne's cross.

However, the 2019/20 Premier League Best Player instead released a sideways execution on the side of the goal, making it the first time since October 2018 that he failed to meet the slightest target in a penalty kick situation.

A minute from half-time Alexander-Arnold escapes control to catch Salah's pass, but his shot is countered by Ederson and a wild ball is secured by the Brazilian goalkeeper before being pounced on by Jota.

The second half started with the two goalkeepers clashing, when Ederson stopped Robertson's shot to start City's counter-attack but De Bruyne's cross at Jesus was cut off by Alisson.

City created another good chance when Jesus slipped through to meet Joao Cancelo's measured cross, but his header was sideways down the side of the net.

It proved to be the last chance for the match which then took place with cold tension in the pouring rain of Etihad.

The Premier League will enter the international break for two weeks after this, before City travel to Tottenham Hotspur headquarters and Liverpool host Leicester City.
