Epic Moment Sri Mulyani Meets Janet Yellen In Bali, Talks About The World Economy To The War Crisis

JAKARTA - The agenda for the G20 meeting always provides opportunities for world leaders to meet and share information related to the current situation.

In a series of events between the Minister of Finance and Governors of the G20 Central Bank (3rd Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors/FMCBG) which ended last weekend in Bali, Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani met physically with her colleagues from the United States (US), namely Janet Yellen.

For economists, the name Janet Yellen can certainly be quite familiar to their ears. How not, the 75-year-old woman is the current US Secretary of the Treasury. Yellen was also previously Governor of the United States Central Bank or The Federal Reserve.

The author once got an interesting picture from a friend about the figure whose full name is Janet Louise Yellen.

"Even when Yellen just 'sneezed', it could affect financial markets around the world," said a friend telling Janet Yellen, who was then still governor of the Fed.

So what were these two state treasurers talking about?

Quoting the Ministry of Finance broadcast, it was known that Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani and Minister of Finance Yellen were involved in discussions related to environmental, food, energy, and world economic recovery issues after COVID-19.

The source said, they agreed to underline the consequences of geopolitical issues that have not yet experienced de-escalation as the cause of the ongoing food and energy crisis.

"This is because the various impacts caused by the conflict in Ukraine are one of the triggers for the continued soaring world energy prices and cause challenges to the global economy," said Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani.

To overcome this, various policy options need to be discussed so that world oil supply is maintained and world oil prices can return to pre-conflict levels.

"The handling of the food and energy crisis in the world must be accelerated because actually anyone has the right to access affordable food and energy," he said.

Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani also emphasized that the results of the FMCBG Third Meeting would be well communicated to the world community. This effort is in line with the spirit of the Indonesian G20 Presidency to continue to work hard and contribute in addressing various major problems in the world.

"Indonesia continues to provide concrete evidence of the significance and relevance of the G20's role in achieving global economic recovery together, in line with the direction of the theme of the Indonesian G20 Presidency: Recover Together, Recover Stronger," concluded Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani.
