Within A Week The Polda Metro Jaya Arrested Ten Bicycle Begal's And Two Of Their Catchers
JAKARTA - The increase in the number of cyclists is marked by rampant bicycle robberies. Within a week, Polda Metro Jaya had arrested 12 suspects who were robbing bicycles.
Metro Jaya Regional Police Chief Inspector General of Police Nana Sudjana said that of the total number of thieves arrested this week, ten were robbers and two were custodians of goods resulting from crimes.
"Of the 12 people arrested in one week. Three of the perpetrators were arrested when they resisted and tried to seize weapons from the special team. Finally, we took a measured decisive action and on the way to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital, all three had died," he said, Saturday, November 7th.
The three suspects who died were RAF, FA and ADN. Nana said the police would hand over the bodies of the suspects to their families the next day.
Nana said, of the suspects, the police confiscated as many as 71 cellphones which were suspected to belong to the cyclist of the victim's begal.
"So their mode is usually riding a motorbike and riding a bike, then stalking the target so that they can be caught off guard. The total number of cyclists that we have caught so far is 22 people," he said.
Previously, said Nana, the police had arrested ten bicycle robbers from six cases. In total, there were 13 cases that the victim reported to the police.
Nana stated that the robbery suspects were suspected of violating Article 363 of the Criminal Code concerning theft by weight or Article 365 of the Criminal Code with the threat of a prison sentence of seven years.
Meanwhile, for custodians, he continued, he is suspected of violating Article 480 of the Criminal Code with the threat of a four year prison sentence.
