BPS Calls Unemployment In Jakarta The Highest In Indonesia, Anies Talks About Health Crisis

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Central Statistics Agency noted that the increase in the open unemployment rate (TPT) in the capital city in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic was the highest compared to other provinces in Indonesia.

Responding to this, DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan acknowledged that the health crisis during the pandemic had an impact on all aspects, including the economic aspect. This is because the economic contraction occurred because of the health crisis.

"As long as the health crisis has not been completely controlled, we will always set aside the economic impact. And the impact, one of which is labor absorption, disrupted employment opportunities," said Anies at the DPRD DKI building, Central Jakarta, Friday, November 6.

According to Anies, as long as the government and society have not been able to control the transmission of the corona virus completely, the effect on the economy will still be felt.

Therefore, the crisis that emerged in the economic sector, according to Anies, was not merely a miscalculation of investment or an error in economic activity, but a side effect of the health crisis.

In handling COVID-19, Anies said that the government continues to strive for 3 T, namely increasing the ability of testing, tracing, and treatment for handling COVID-19.

"From the community side, 3M is also serious. Wearing masks consistently, washing hands regularly, and maintaining a distance. These are the same aims to control the transmission of COVID-19," explained Anies.

Previously, BPS DKI Jakarta on Thursday, November 5 presented the provincial data with the highest unemployment rate per August 2020 in DKI Jakarta with a rate of 10.95 percent.

This figure increased from August 2019 of 6.54 percent. Meanwhile, the national unemployment rate is 7.07 percent.
