Polri Explains The Causes Of The Riot On Demonstrations Against The Job Creation Law In East Kalimantan

JAKARTA - The National Police explained the cause of the rioting during a demonstration against the Omnibus Law on Cipta Kerja in East Kalimantan, on November 5. One of them was because the masses had closed off road access.

"They demonstrated to close the road, meanwhile the road was used for the public, the National Police of course in the framework of protecting many interests," said Karo Penmas, Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Awi Setiyono to reporters, Friday, November 6.

Police personnel who were deployed to secure the demonstration tried to get the masses to open access roads. The demonstration was affirmed that the Police did not have a permit. Because during the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Police never issued this permit.

But when Polri members tried to open access roads that were closed, the masses refused. Finally there was chaos.

"There was a push because it was clear that there was no STTP, no notification, anarchist, so the police pushed for the road to be opened again," he said.

This demonstration was carried out by student elements in front of the East Kalimantan DPRD Office. About nine students were secured.

Two of them, FR and WJ, were named suspects. For FR, a suspect was named because he was carrying a sharp weapon. Meanwhile, WJ for throwing a stone which hit the face of a policeman. Meanwhile, the other seven students are still being investigated by the police.
