DIY Satpol PP Installs Prohibition Signs For Electric Scooters In Malioboro
YOGYAKARTA - The Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta installed a sign prohibiting the use of electric scooters in the Tugu area, Malioboro to the Kilometer Zero Point in Yogyakarta.
"The target is not to let electric scooters pass by. To let the public or tourists know that it is prohibited there," said Head of Satpol PP DIY Noviar Rahmad as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, July 14.
The installation of signs in the form of banners and stickers, he said, refers to the Circular (SE) of the Governor of DIY Number 551/4671 related to the prohibition of certain vehicles operating using electric motors on Jalan Margo Utomo, Jalan Malioboro, and Jalan Margo Mulyo, Yogyakarta City.
The electric motor-driven vehicles in question include electric scooters, hoverboards, electric unicycles, and electric scooters.
Even though the SE ban has been issued on March 31, 2022, according to him, many electric scooter rental service business actors ignore it, then look for loopholes to continue operating in the area.
"We've often done operations. However, it turns out that they continue to 'play cat and mouse'," said Noviar.
Noviar Rahmad hopes that the prohibition signs in the form of 18 banners and 300 stickers will discourage the public or tourists from renting and using electric scooters along the Axis Filosofi area of Yogyakarta.
He hopes that the people in the area will participate in monitoring and dare to reprimand if they know that they have violated the rules.
"Later on, not only Satpol PP will monitor it automatically, but everyone can monitor or remind, for example, there are tourists who are wearing motorbikes and then pass along Malioboro," he said.
Regarding sanctions for violators of the prohibition, it will be regulated in the Yogyakarta Mayor Regulation (Perwal) which will be issued soon.
According to Noviar, the sanctions can range from fines to the confiscation of electric scooters.
"The acting mayor of Yogyakarta has agreed that the third week of July this regulation will take effect," he said.
To ensure that the prohibition signs are observed and obeyed, according to him, DIY Satpol PP officers will be deployed along the Tugu area, Malioboro to Yogyakarta Kilometer Zero Point at night.
"We focus on the night because usually in the afternoon they (scooter users) aren't there yet," he said.
The Head of the DIY Transportation Service, Ni Made Dwipanti Indrayanti, said that the highway or protocol road is not suitable for driving electric vehicles such as electric scooters because it is dangerous for users and pedestrians in the vicinity.
According to him, the ban on the use of electric scooters in the Tugu area of Yogyakarta, Malioboro, to the Zero Kilometer Point because it is a strategic area and crowded with visitors for the sake of order and mutual comfort.
"There are rules that must be obeyed and the community can support them in an orderly manner. Supervision is also the same," said Made.
