Dian Sastrowardoyo Becomes A Kretek Girl, Masters In Making Delicious Cigarette Sauce
JAKARTA - Dian Sastrowardoyo is the main player in the Kretek Girl series, which is based on the novel Ratih Kumala. The Kretek Girl tells the story of a love story with the background of the development of the kretek industry and various historical events in Indonesia.
Dian Sastrowardoyo will play Dasiyah, a visionary woman known for her ability to mix delicious kretek cigarette sauce. Ario Bayu will play Soeraja, who accidentally enters the kretek industry and leaves a valuable legacy.
Princess Marino will play Arum, an independent and curious girl. Meanwhile, Arya Saloka will play Lebas, Soeraja's youngest child who lives his own life.
Kretek Girls are also supported by a number of other well-known actors, namely Tissa Biani, Ine Febriyanti, Winky Wiryawan, Sheila Dara, Ibnu Jamil, Rukman Rosadi, Nungki Kusumastuti, Dimas Aditya, Pritt Timothy, and Tutie Kirana.
Produced by BASE Entertainment and showrunner Shanty Harmayn and Tanya Yuson, the series will be directed by Kamila Andini and Ifa Isfansyah based on a script written by Tanya Yuson, Ratih Kumala, Kanya K. Priyanti and Ambarizki Ramadhantyo.
“Kretek Girls captures an important period in the kretek cigarette industry as well as various historical events that later changed the lives of many people, including the emergence of a touching love story. Together with the Kretek Girls cast, as well as an extraordinary set and story, we believe we will provide a meaningful story for audiences everywhere," said Director Kamila Andini as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, July 14.
"We are proud to be able to bring this beautiful story to the small screen, especially because the Kretek Girl has its roots in Indonesia and conveys a piece of history that I believe viewers everywhere can enjoy," said showrunner Shanty Harmayn. Kretek Girls has entered production and is set to premiere in 2023 on Netflix.
