Erick Thohir Supports British KPK To Investigate Corruption Cases At Garuda Indonesia
JAKARTA - BUMN Minister Erick Thohir supports the investigation of a corruption case involving Garuda Indonesia and international aircraft manufacturer Bombardier after the British Serious Fraud Office announced that it will start an investigation into a case involving former President Director of PT Garuda Indonesia 2005-2014 Emirsyah Satar.
"We at the Ministry of BUMN are very supportive of the continuation of legal issues at Garuda because this is part of good corporate governance and transparency that has been carried out since our inception and is in accordance with the BUMN transformation program," said Erick Thohir in a statement received on Friday, November 6.
Erick Thohir said that his party would continue to coordinate with KPK law enforcement officials, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, and the Attorney General's Office in handling the Garuda case.
"The Ministry of Law and Human Rights is helping us in making contract revisions through mutual legal assistance," said Erick Thohir.
Previously, the British Serious Fraud Office announced that it had started an investigation regarding a corruption case involving Garuda Indonesia and the aircraft manufacturer Bombardier.
Meanwhile, former President Director of PT Garuda Indonesia 2005-2014, Emirsyah Satar, who was involved in the case, has been charged with 12 years in prison plus a fine of Rp. 10 billion, a subsidiary of 8 months in prison, because he is considered proven to have accepted bribes worth around Rp. billion.
In the first indictment, Emirsyah Satar as the President Director of PT Garuda Indonesia in 2005-2014 was accused together with Hadinoto Soedigno and Capt Agus Wahyudo of receiving money totaling IDR8,859 billion, US $ 884,200, 1,020,975 euros, and 1,189,208 dollars Singapore.
The bribes came from Airbus SAS, Roll-Royce Plc, and Avions de Transport regional (ATR), as well as Bombardier Canada, through Hollingsworld Management International Ltd Hong Kong and Summberville Pacific Inc.
One of the bribes was related to the receipt of money for the procurement of Sub-100 seater Canadian Regional Jet 1,000 Next Generation (CRJ1,000NG) aircraft from Bombardier Aerospace Commercial Aircraft (hereinafter referred to as Bombardier) through Hollingworth Management International (HMI) and Summerville Pacific Inc.
