Ronda Rousey's Phobia Of Plagiarizing Intimate Areas, Forcing Changes In Dressing Style Of Women Wrestlers At UFC
JAKARTA - The name Ronda Rousey is known as one of the best female fighters ever to appear in the octagon. But, not only that, the influence of the former UFC fighter who is now active in WWE also has an impact on aspects outside the arena.
Quoted from the Daily Star, Thursday, Rousey once revealed that she has a phobia of plagiarizing intimate areas or camel toes. That's what then triggers a significant change to the style of dress when fighting in the arena.
Rousey's phobia has also been influential in the adaptation of the outfits of current women's MMA fighters and WWE wrestlers. It all started when Rousey had her first fight against Miesha Tate in 2012.
After that he made a statement that seemed like a joke regarding his phobia of plagiarizing intimate areas. When fighting with Tate, Rousey put up a fight by inserting her hook from the gap behind the opponent's leg to lock.
“Oh, I can do that move from here (his side) easily. But if I did, I would get everyone's attention, so I had to figure out a way to pull (legs) out so that this (intimate part) is facing down, not facing people," he said in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine. .
"And after that, then I had a phobia of camel toes. I swear, every time after I won, before I even took off my mouth guard, I pulled my pants down to protect it,"
“I did it because I have a high level of camel toe phobia. People can also just zoom in (pictures) on the internet and do everything. Then it's always the first thing I do, which is to make sure the clothes don't make any traces," Rousey said.
Luckily for Rousey, her phobia was taken seriously and prompted sportswear giant Reebok to find a solution to her concerns about intimate area plagiarism.
Rousey even got the opportunity to be involved in designing sportswear that could minimize her phobia.
"I went to their (Reebok) place and tried a lot of different things, and told them the things that bothered me," Rousey said.
"Women who fight have bigger back muscles, and the back muscles coming out on top of the bra are annoying, and that means you have to wear a bra that's strong around the neck, but very flexible," she explains.
Rousey also emphasized that comfortable sportswear is the most important thing. But on the occasion of a visit to the Reebok office, he again emphasized his phobia.
“Things like that. I constantly adjust my shorts because they (the intimate area traces) are popping up all the time, so they have to be as comfortable as possible on the bottom. Because I'm also constantly tearing seams in the same section. Clothes don't last long with me," Rousey said.
After Rousey's worries and phobias, the UFC finally launched a fight kit in collaboration with Reebok for UFC 189 in 2015.
Rousey was not competing at the time, but she did take part in UFC 190 four months later to beat Bethe Correia in just 34 seconds.
